Drury scored eleven runs on twelve hits to sweep their weekend series with Northern Kentucky 11-8 on Sunday in the final game of the four game series in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Meador Park.
Kevin Dusold homered to left in the second to put the Norse on the board. The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the second on a Joel Potts sacrifice fly and an NKU wild pitch that scored Dane Hughes to go up 2-1. An RBI groundout by Tyler Goss in the third pushed the Panther lead to 3-1.
The Drury bats came alive in the fourth as the Panthers scored eight runs on nine singles to put the game out of reach 11-1. The Norse managed one run in the fifth and sixth to pull within 11-3.
NKU struck again when Dusold hit his second homer of the game in the eighth to make it 11-4. Northern Kentucky scored three more runs on a Brett Hoffman double with the bases loaded to make it 11-7. The Norse scored their final run on a bases loaded hit by pitch RBI. Panther closer Zane Montgomery struck out three batters in the ninth for his fifth save of the year.
Junior pitcher Stephen Bloss scattered seven hits in allowing three runs in six innings of work to improve to 2-1 on the season as the Panthers pushed their records to 12-8 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC. The Norse Ryan Schmidt (0-1) received the loss. Drury pounded out 12 hits and NKU had 10. Bret Gallion had three hits, two RBIs and a run to lead DU. Harrison Waters had two hits, an RBI and a run. Nine Panthers posted hits in the offensive outburst.
Northern Kentucky, the preseason league favorite in the East Division, is 10-9 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC.
The Drury baseball team will be in action on Wednesday when they will travel to Warrensburg and take on the No. 9 University of Central Missouri in a single nine-inning game at 6:30 p.m.
