KIRKSVILLE - Drury scored a pair of goals in each half to come away with a 4-2 victory over Truman State Friday in the season opener for both men's college soccer squads at the Truman State Pitch.
Jake Allison opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 15th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage, which grew to 2-0 when Ben Taylor scored off a penalty kick just 10 minutes later. The Bulldogs answered with a Drew Pauk goal in the 35th minute and trailed 2-1 at halftime.
The Panthers, in their first game under new head coach Ryan Swan, put the victory away when Andrew Bordelon scored off a Steve Wilczewski assist at 66:48, and after a Truman goal cut it to 3-2, countered with Micah Whorton's goal off a Peter Higgins assist at 76:08 to make it 4-2.
Stephen Conner was credited with four saves in picking up the victory in goal for the Panthers, who matched Truman with 15 shots in the contest.
Drury will play its home opener on Sunday when Newman visits Harrison Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
