ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drury advanced to the GLVC tournament semifinals with a 5-1 win over Bellarmine at the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis on Friday.
The 14
th ranked Panthers improved to 19-2 while Bellarmine ends their season with a record of 18-5. The win was the 350th career victory for Drury head coach
Jarrod Smith combining his men's and women's win total.
Drury won two of the three doubles matches as
Larissa Karl and
Julia Schepp picked up an 8-5 win over Ashley Jonathan and Marissa Kovach while
Chung-Yen Huang and
Josephine Jedrychowski improved to 16-0 as a duo with an 8-2 victory over Mairin Cotter and Bess Fley.
The Panthers clinched the quarterfinal win with three singles victories. JiaQuing Mo swept past Sydney Thompson 6-0, 6-0. Jedrychowski and Elizaveta Tregubova also completed singles wins to the end the match. Tregubova, a freshman from Russia, got 6-2, 6-3 win over Bess Fley.to improve to 7-0 in singles play this season.
Drury will play Missouri-St. Louis (14-1, 5-1) in the semifinals on Sunday. The Tritons advanced with a 5-0 win over Illinois-Springfield on Friday in the tournament quarterfinals. Sunday's match will start at 9 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
