SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Panthers cruised past Indianapolis, the second seed from the East, 5-1 on Saturday at Cooper Tennis Complex to move to the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship match.
Drury will play UMSL, the second seed from the West, who upset top seeded Bellarmine 5-0. The GLVC Championship match is set to start at noon on Sunday. Drury improved to 17-1 while UINDY dropped to 15-6.
The Panthers kicked off doubles play with an 8-4 victory by Larissa Karl and Julia Schepp. UINDY evened the match up at the top of the lineup with an 8-5 victory. Drury grabbed momentum back with a 9-8 win that went to the Panthers 7-4 in the tiebreaker.
JiaQing Mo had no problems in the initial singles match, cruising past Pam Brito Torres 6-2, 6-0 at the five spot. An injury default forced UINDY to concede at the two position and put the Panthers one point away from claiming the win. Viktoriya Zheleva clinched the match for the Panthers with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Chloe Weihs.
