SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The University of Indianapolis captured their third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Drury at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
The 21st ranked Panthers dropped to 18-4 while the Greyhounds raised their record to 22-2.
Each of the three doubles matches were decided by 9-8 scores as Indianapolis, ranked 12th in NCAA-II, won two of the three rounds to take a 2-1 lead. Drury's doubles team of Leonardo Cerri and Sabastian Amato had the Panthers lone win.
Indianapolis clinched the title with Renato Lima's three-set win over Amato, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
The Panthers entered the tournament ranked second in the Midwest Region and will wait for an announcement from the NCAA regarding their selection and seeding the national tournament. UINDY is the top-ranked team in the region, and their GLVC championship gives them an automatic bid to the national tournament.
