Varela led Drury with a 111th-place finish in a field of 500-plus runners in the Sean Earle Lakefront Invitational hosted by Chicago-Loyola. Varela and freshman Rebecca Senn (112th) helped the Panthers to a 23rd-place finish in the 41-team field.
