Drury University Athletics

Dan Sullivan was the 1982 team MVP, an award which is given to the Panther who scores the most points at the national meet. Sullivan, a native of St. Louis, Missouri was a big part of the Panthers first two NAIA national championships in 1981 and 1982. A freestyle specialist, Sullivan earned All-American honors as a freshman (1979) by finishing 11th in the 1650-free. As a sophomore he finished third in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200 free. As a junior this sprinted and distance freestyler was second in the 200 and 400 freestyle events (Drury's Jim Yount finished first in both) and sixth in the 100-meter freestyle. He was also part of the Panthers national championship relay teams (the 400 and 800-meter events.) But it was his senior year that he was the dominant force, leading the Panthers to their second straight title as he set new national records in the 200 and 400 freestyle events, breaking the records set the year before by Jim Yount. Sullivan was also an honor student at Drury. Dan graduated from Drury College in May 6, 1982.
