Harold "Hal" Moore was one Drury's top athletes prior to his graduation on May 29, 1950 with a degree in mathematics. Hal played several sports, but he was a standout in track and cross country during the 1948-49 and 1949-50 school years. Records indicate that Moore ran a 2.75 cross country course his junior year in a time of 14:11.8 seconds and later that year he won the St. Louis Globe-Democrat Two-Mile Turkey Trot with a record-setting time of 8:48.2 seconds. His senior year Moore joined John Keifer, Bill Overbey and Jack Franham at the Kansas Relays to take first place with a record-tying time of 3:36.7 seconds in the medley relay.
