Jack James was part of the A.L. Weiser-coached basketball teams of the late 1930's that dominated the Missouri Collegiate Athletic Union (M.C.A.U.). A two-time all-conference selection, Jack was part of the 1937 and 1938 teams that won M.C.A.U. conference titles with a combined two-year conference record of 23-1. The 1938 team was the first Panther team to qualify for the NAIB (now the NAIA) national tournament. He earned his bachelor's degree from Drury on June 3, 1940 with a major in geology. He later earned his master's degree from the Rolla School of Mines and his doctorate (in geology) from the University of Missouri. He enjoyed a most successful corporate and entrepreneurial career before retirement seven years ago. He now lives in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and is a member of the Drury College Board of Trustees.
