She is the only female swimmer, and one of only two simmers in the nation, to win 12 individual national titles in 12 attempts. Only one other swimmer, John Van Buren of Simon Fraser, won 12 titles during his college career (1973-1976). Lourette was a perfect 12 for 12 at the four NAIA national meets in which she competed, winning four 200-yard breaststroke championships, four 200-yard individual medley titles, and, four 400-yard individual medley titles. A perfect 12 for 12...and because of that "perfect" accomplishment she was the cover story of the April, 1994 isssue of Swimming World Magazine. Lourette was the NAIA national meet MVP all four years she attended Drury. She was also a major reason the Panthers, as a team, finished third in the nation in 1991 and claimed the NAIA national titles in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Lourette Hakansson only the second female swimmer to be inducted into the Drury Sports Hall of Fame. The native of Boras, Sweden joins Michelle Langsford, who was inducted in 1995.
