The native of Indianapolis, Indiana, started his collegiate career in the fall of 1978 and graduated on May 9, 1982 with a major in physical education/secondary education. During his four-year career at Drury, Lewis was a seven-time All-American and a four-time national champion. He was the NAIA national champion in one-meter diving in 1980, 1981, and 1982. He was the three-meter diving champion in 1982 as well, in spite of the fact that Drury did not even have a three meter board at the time. Lewis is the first ever diver to be inducted into the Drury Sports Hall of Fame.
