He ranks ninth on the Drury basketball all-time scoring list with 1,598 points, but if the three-point line was around at the time, Tom Deffebaugh would be ranked much higher as the majority of his shots came from "long distance." Even more impressive was his career field goal percentage of 52.2 percent. A 1985 NAIA All-American and a two-time all-district pick. Tom graduated from Drury on May 12, 1985 with a degree in physical education. Since his graduation from Drury he has coached almost exclusively at the college level. The native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, he was the assistant coach for two years at the University of Missouri-Rolla before he returned to Drury as the Panthers's assistant coach for two seasons. He also served as an assistant for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and Southwest Missouri State.
