No. 16 Lady Panthers Pull Away In Second Half For 78-56 Victory At Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - Addy Roller scored 17 points to pace three Lady Panthers in double-figures and No. 16 Drury used a burst to start the second half to pull away from Indianapolis for a 78-56 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Indianapolis Friday night at Nicoson Hall.

Heather Harman matched her career high with 13 points off the bench and Sanayika Shields added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Lady Panthers improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC.

Drury fell behind 10-2 at the start and led just 29-28 at halftime against the Greyhounds (4-6, 1-1). But an 11-0 run after the teams traded buckets to open the second half started the pullaway for the Lady Panthers. A Shields layup at the 15:33 mark made it 42-30, and UIndy would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

"It's tough to play in this conference on the road, so ugly, pretty, bad, good ... if it's a win, we'll take it. We had to challenge them a little bit ... I knew we were better than the effort we were showing. I thought we were playing with a lack of effort, and I think our girls took it to heart.

"I was very proud of the way they responded in the second half and played Drury ball like I know they can. I thought we came out and executed much better."

Drury outrebounded the Greyhounds 38-33, led by a career-high eight boards from sophomore guard Alice Heinzler. The Lady Panthers had 17 offensive boards, while limiting UIndy to just three.

"Alice is our crasher," Miller said. "I thought all of our girls did a really good job of crashing the boards tonight."

Princess German had 24 points and Kelly Walter added 18 points for Uindy, which shot 39 percent from the field. The Lady Panthers started the game 1-for-11 from the field, but finished at 40 percent for the game (28 of 70), including a 10-for-24 effort from 3-point range. Harman made 3 of 4 tries from behind the arc, while Roller hit two of her four tries.

The Lady Panthers also had a season-low four turnovers while forcing 20 miscues by the Greyhounds.

Drury concludes the two-game road weekend by visiting Saint Joseph's, coached by former DU boss Steve Harold, for a 1 p.m. tipoff on Sunday in Rensselaer, Ind.

"It's the best Saint Joe's team I've seen," Miller says, previewing the matchup with the man who coached her during her senior season at DU (2007-08). "Kalia Parks can score whenever she wants on film ... she's tough to handle and can play any spot on the floor. They run their system well and know what Coach Harold wants them to do. It will be fun."

The Lady Panthers return home next week to host Southern Indiana on Thursday (5:45 p.m.) and Bellarmine on Saturday (1 p.m.) at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
