JEFFERSON CITY –
Carson Forge hit three homers as the Drury Softball Panthers blasted 27 hits in route to a doubleheader sweep over Lincoln here on Monday run ruling the Blue Tigers 13-3 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap.
Drury is now 5-5 and Lincoln falls to 0-11 on the season.
In the opener the Panthers took a 2-0 lead on a pair of homers, the first coming from
Carson Forge on her team leading third of the season in the top of the first with
Chantal Oelrich following up in the second with a long ball.
Forge blasted her second homer of the game, this one a two run shot that scored
Marissa Ross in the Panther third for a 4-0 lead. Lincoln rallied to within one run and cut the Panther lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs and three hits and two errors led by a homerun from Shortstop Megan Heimbaugh.
The Panthers erupted for nine runs on seven hits and one error in the top of the fifth to distance themselves from Lincoln 13-3.
Forge posted three hits, four RBIs, and scored three runs in her three at bats to pace the Panther offense. Oelrich had two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs and Ross had two hits with three runs and an RBI.
Drury matched their season high with 11 hits with the Blue Tigers having six hits led by Jessica Wolken and Lauren Stamp with two each.
Shelby Weissenbach (3-1) earned the win with three strikeouts in four innings of action. Madison Ragar (0-6) receiving the loss for the Blue Tigers.
In the nightcap Drury wasted no time jumping on the Blue Tigers again with five runs on seven hits in the opening inning. Forge doubled to score Hillenburg and Weissenbach hit the third Drury homer of the day to bring home Forge and make it 3-0. A pair of RBI singles by
Alyssa Sargent and
Jordan Herman capped off the first.
Sargent scored in the top of the third when the catcher threw to second on an attempted steal. Forge hit her third homer on the day in the fifth to make it an 8-0 lead. Oelrich finished the Blue Tigers off in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Weissenbach for a 9-0 victory called after five innings.
Drury posted a season high 16 hits in the nightcap with Forge finishing with three hits, three RBIs and two runs.
Grace Hargadon also finished with three hits and scored a run. Herman, Oelrich, Sargent and Weissenbach all finished with two hits apiece.
Forge finished the day with a 2.429 slugging percentage and had six hits in seven at bats with seven RBIs and five runs. Forge is tied for third on the all-time home run list at DU with 11 and needs one to tie Stephanie Ray for second. Sadie Ball with 19 is the all-time leader.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (2-2) had a season high seven strikeouts and allowed three hits in the win for Drury. Spencer Silva (0-3) received the loss for the Blue Tigers.
The Drury Softball Panthers will host Southwest Baptist at Thompson Field on Wednesday with action starting at 4 p.m.
