Head coach
Molly Miller enters her third season leading the Drury women's basketball program. She brings a 52-9 career head coaching record into the season and this year has led her team to three exhibition wins in the preseason that included a 66-60 win at Big Ten conference opponent Illinois.
The Lady Panthers will play Kentucky Wesleyan to open the event in Nashville. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since 2012, the last year Kentucky Wesleyan was in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury won the last encounter with a 70-60 win on Jan. 5, 2012. The Lady Panthers are 8-1 all-time against Kentucky Wesleyan with their lone loss coming on Jan. 4, 2007 when they fell on the road 72-69 in overtime. Drury avenged that loss two months later in the conference tournament quarterfinals in Evansville, Indiana.
Kentucky Wesleyan went 17-10 last year. The Panthers have played two exhibition games in the preseason and lost at Cincinnati 79-50 and at Austin Peay 69-59.
Saturday, Drury plays Trevecca Nazarene. Last season, the Lady Panthers won at home over the Trojans 102-64 after Drury had built a 51-32 halftime lead.
Alice Heinzler had 30 points in the game on 11 for 15 shooting while
Annie Armstrong added 24 points. Both players were 8 for 12 from three-point range in the game. Last year's game was the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Trevecca Nazarene was 9-17 last season. This weekend, the Trojans will be playing their first games under new head coach Chad Hibdon. Hibdon came to Trevecca Nazarene after a successful stint at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where his girls' team went 199-98 and won back-to-back class AAA state titles in his last two seasons going 66-3 during that span.
In 16 seasons, the Drury women's basketball has compiled a program record of 393-101 (.796), won seven conference titles, advanced to 13 NCAA-II national tournaments and been to the Elite Eight three times.
The Lady Panthers begin their home schedule on Nov. 15 against Southwest Baptist in the Highway 13 Catfight presented by Bank of Bolivar at 5:30 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
