Drury starts the season 2-0 with win over Walsh

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The seventh-ranked Drury Lady Panthers defeated Walsh 85-55 on Saturday to win both of their games in the Pops Duncan Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville.

Drury improved to 2-0 to start the season while Walsh, who went 20-9 last year, dropped to 1-1.

The Lady Panthers closed out the first half on a 13-4 run. The Cavaliers pulled within four, 28-24, late in the second quarter, but Drury responded to take a 41-28 lead at halftime. The Lady Panthers kept momentum into the second half as senior Heather Harman connected on three consecutive three-pointers to blow open the lead to 65-43 at the end of the third quarter.

After going 13 for 25 from the free throw line last night, the Lady Panthers went 23 for 24 from the line in Saturday's game and they owned a 37-27 rebound advantage over Walsh.

"I was really pleased with our energy at the start of the game," said Drury head coach Molly Miller. "We talked about missing points at the free throw line after last night's game and I'm really proud of the way we stepped up and made them today."

Harman led Drury with 19 points and went 4 for 6 from three-point range. Lucia Fernandez had 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field and the junior from Spain added eight rebounds. Hailey Diestelkamp also scored double-figures with 12 points.

Shelby Henkle had 13 points to lead Walsh.

Drury swept both games in the event with their win Saturday and their 71-57 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Friday night.

The Lady Panthers are back in action on Tuesday in the Bank of Bolivar Highway 13 Catfight against Southwest Baptist. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. at SBU in Bolivar.
