Panthers race to Daytona for game vs. Embry-Riddle
With final exams completed, the Drury Panthers race from the winter of the Ozarks to the warmth of the Sunshine State for a Sunday game against Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Panthers are 7-2 and have been idle since an 81-50 win at home over Lyon (Ark.) on Dec. 9. The game will be Drury's fourth road contest of the season. The Panthers are 2-1 on the road this year with a win at Southwest Baptist 89-61, a conference win at Quincy 87-72, and Drury's loss on the road came at Emporia State, 69-62, on Nov. 18.
Embry-Riddle is 5-5 after a Friday night win at home over Florida National, 99-76. The Eagles are in their first season as a championship-eligible program at the NCAA-II level, but they carried a strong winning tradition with them as they transitioned to a new level. Led by head coach Steve Ridder, who is in his 29
th season leading the program, the Eagles had advanced to 15 NAIA national tournaments, won the NAIA-II national championship in 2000, and were in the national semifinals in 2015 during their last season in the NAIA.
Sunday's meeting is the first-ever game between the two teams.
Following Sunday's game, the Panthers go into the NCAA-II mandated "Life in Balance" week. Their next scheduled game is Dec. 30 at home against Saint Mary (Kan.). Tipoff is at 3:15 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
