EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drury softball team concluded the Southern Indiana Crossover tournament with a split of their final two games falling to Ohio Dominican 7-6, and beating Ferris State 6-3.
Drury moves to 5-7, Ohio Dominican improved to 5-6 and Ferris State is now 0-6.
In the opener, Drury scored in the bottom of the second when
Ashley Parker singled to score
Taylor Ellestad. Ohio Dominican scored two runs in the top of the third and added four more on three hits in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.
Drury tied the game with a five-run fifth inning but ODU scored the game winning run in the sixth on an RBI single by Jordan Nichols.
Drury outhit Ohio Dominican 10-9 and was led by Ellestad who had two hits and scored two runs and
Kelley Conway who had two hits and two RBI's.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (2-5) received the loss with Abby Lamping (3-1) getting the win for ODU.
In the nightcap, Drury wasted no time jumping on Ferris State and scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Drury added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Rachel Michaelis ground out and a
Kaelie Smith RBI single for a 6-2 lead.
Smith led Drury with three hits in the game. She added a run and an RBI.
Destiny Bolen (3-2) got the win for Drury and Abby Highway (0-3) received the loss for the Bulldogs.
Up next for the Drury softball team will be the Teri Mathis Zenner Tournament in Joplin on March 4-5. DU will open against Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then take on Northwest Missouri State at 4 p.m.
