Lady Panthers see Saginaw Valley St. in NCAA-II second round
Drury takes on Saginaw Valley State on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA-II Midwest Regional in Ashland, Ohio.
 
The Lady Panthers are 29-3, ranked 5th in NCAA-II and seeded second in the region. Drury advanced to the second round with a 75-57 win over Bellarmine in the opening round on Friday. A win would put Drury in the regional championship game on Monday night and give the Lady Panthers their third 30-win season in program history and their first since the 2005-06 season.
 
Saginaw Valley State is 23-7 and seeded third in the regional. The Cardinals advanced on Friday defeating Lewis 70-66 in the first round. Saginaw Valley State went 17-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference and won the North Division championship in the regular season before losing in the semifinals of the GLIAC tournament. The Cardinals were in the national tournament field last year and defeated Bellarmine in the opening round before falling to Grand Valley State in the regional semifinals.
 
Drury is playing Saginaw Valley State for only the third time in program history and for the first time since the 2006-07 season. The Lady Panthers are 2-0 against the Cardinals with both encounters coming in the regular season.
 
The winner of Saturday's game advanced to the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Championship game and will play the winner of top-seeded Ashland, also the nation's number one ranked team, and fifth-seeded Grand Valley State on Monday at 6 p.m. (central) in Ashland, Ohio.
