JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.- Drury swept Lincoln in a doubleheader on the road Tuesday with a 3-0 win in game one and an 8-1 victory in the second game in Jefferson City.
The Panthers improved to 14-13 while Lincoln fell to 2-18.
Drury won game one on the strength of a shutout from pitcher
Jessica Kjeldgaard. Kjeldgaard (7-8) fired seven innings allowing no runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three.
The Panthers jumped in front with two runs in the first inning scoring on RBI doubles by
Kaelie Smith and
Hannah Hearst. The score stayed 2-0 until the top of the seventh when Drury tacked on an insurance run with a RBI single by
Rachael Michaelis.
The Panthers opened up a 1-0 lead with a four-run fifth inning in game two. Drury added three more runs in the seventh to win 8-1.
Rachael Michaelis went 4 for 4 at the plate for the Panthers with two RBI's, a run and a double.
Kaelie Smith had three singles in the game and a run scored.
Destiny Bolen (7-5) got the win going 7 innings and allowed four hits and one run with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Drury plays their first home games of the season this weekend when they host 10
th ranked Southern Indiana on Saturday at noon in a doubleheader at Thompson Field. The Panthers also host Bellarmine in a noon doubleheader on Sunday.
