ST. LOUIS – UMSL recorded a pair of shutout wins, 2-0 and 10-0, to earn a GLVC sweep over the Drury Softball Panthers Saturday. UMSL improves to 32-12 overall, and 14-6 in the GLVC, and Drury slips to 18-27 overall, and 6-16 in the league.
In the opener,
Jessica Kjeldgaard (9-15) and the Panther defense kept the Tritons off the board until the sixth, when UMSL had back-to-back RBI hits (double and a single) to claim a 2-0 victory.
Coco Caraway (7-2) held the Drury offense to four hits, despite not recording a strikeout, in seven innings in the circle for the win. UMSL had six hits and was led by shortstop Alex Stupek, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, UMSL wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the opening inning, scoring six runs on four hits. The Tritons followed up with an RBI single in the second, and tacked on three runs in the sixth to cap off the 10-0 win.
Taylor Ellestad and
Rachael Michaelis recorded hits for the Panthers. Stupek went 5 for 7 on the day, had four RBIs, and scored twice for the Tritons.
Andee Tiffee (7-3) earned the win and had eight strikeouts in four innings. DU junior
Destiny Bolen (9-12) got the loss for the Panthers, allowing four hits, and six runs in the opening frame.
Drury will return home to Thompson Field on Tuesday, when they will face Rogers State in a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
