Drury fell twice in a GLVC doubleheader vs. Illinois-Springfield, losing the opener 9-0, and falling 10-0 in the nightcap at Thompson Field. Drury moves to 19-30 overall and 6-18 in the GLVC. Illinois-Springfield goes to 27-21 overall, and 13-11 in the league. The Prairie Stars have now won seven straight.
In the opener, the Prairie Stars gave Ali Haesele (15-6), a nine run cushion. She struck out seven in a complete game shutout win.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (10-16) pitched 5.2 innings for the Panthers. She allowed nine runs (one unearned) on 14 hits. She faced 31 batters.
Kaelie Smith had both of the Panthers' hits, and went 2 for 2. Katie Wooldridge went 3 for 3 in the nine hole for Illinois-Springfield, and had a run and an RBI in the 14 UIS hit effort.
In the nightcap, the Prairie Stars scored three runs on two hits in the third. Runs were scored on a wild pitch and a two run homer by Erin Stroup, her fifth of the year. A two RBI double by Lakyn Wagoner in the fourth made it a 5-0 Illinois-Springfield lead.
Illinois-Springfield capped their scoring off by adding five more runs in the fifth, and holding the Panthers for a 10-0 win.
Kari Hillenburg went 2 for 3 for Drury, who finished with three hits, and left six on base. The Prairie Stars had nine hits, and left seven on base. Wagoner went 2 for 2, had four RBIs, and scored a run.
Jaycee Craver (8-9), earned the win in the circle, and had three strikeouts in five innings.
Destiny Bolen (9-14) received the loss, and had three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Up next, Drury hosts McKendree on Monday, April 24 at noon. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 23, but was rescheduled due to weather.
