SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The nationally ranked Drury Lady Panthers moved their season record to 14-1 with an 82-51 victory over visiting Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon at the O'Reilly Family Event Center in Great Lakes Valley Conference play for their 12th win in a row.
Paced by a 22 point scoring performance by senior
Heather Harman, including 6 of 10 shooting from 3-point range, the Lady Panthers gained control of the contest in the closing minutes of the first quarter, leading by 12 after one period at 25-13, and then put the contest out of reach during the second stanza.
Drury took advantage of 14 first half turnovers by S&T and raced to a 47-23 halftime lead, highlighted by a near half-court 3-point bucket by freshman Payton Richards at the buzzer.
The Lady Panthers outscored S&T 13-6 to open the third quarter to lead 60-29 equaling their largest lead of the game before allowing the Lady Miners to draw slightly closer. But Drury again matched their widest margin in the final score outscoring S&T 17-9 in the fourth quarter.
"I think when you're able to shut teams down early that's important," said Drury head coach
Molly Miller. "You then have the opportunity to sub in and out and distribute the minutes and sometimes when you do that you're not as clean as you'd like at times."
Sophomore
Hailey Diestelkamp was the only other Drury player in double figures, scoring 12 and pulling down a game high 13 rebounds. Senior Janie Arand topped the S&T scoring with 14 points.
The Lady Panthers return to conference action January 15 at Truman State in the first game of a four-game road swing that spans 11 days.
