NASHVILLE, Tenn.– Drury freshman
Paige Robinson scored 24 points and went 6 for 9 from three-point range in her collegiate debut as the ninth-ranked Lady Panthers won their season opener 98-60 over Kentucky Wesleyan in the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday night.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
Robinson, a Bethany, Illinois native playing in her first regular season college game, went 9 of 14 from the field in addition to hitting six three-pointers, all of which came in the first half.
Hailey Diestelkamp had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while
Payton Richards added 16 points and four assists.
Drury shot 58 percent from the field in the game hitting 35 of 60 shots and connected on 13 of their 24 three-point attempts. The Lady Panthers owned a 51-32 lead at halftime.
"I can't say enough about
Paige Robinson and her performance tonight," said Drury head coach
Molly Miller. "The reason why she is here is her ability to hit shots. We knew what we were losing with (the graduation of)
Alice Heinzler and
Heather Harman, and we knew Paige had to help fill that void for us."
Kaylee Duncan led Kentucky Wesleyan with 14 points.
The Lady Panthers play the host team, Trevecca Nazarene, on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the second day of the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville.
