KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Isaac Johnson scored a season-high 28 points as the Drury Panthers won their fifth straight game with an 83-67 win over Rockhurst on Thursday night in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Panthers raised their record to 17-4 and 10-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Rockhurst fell to 11-12 and 4-9 in the league.
Drury jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the game's first five minutes, but Rockhurst chopped the Panthers lead to four at halftime, 31-27.
Drury picked up the tempo in the second half and outscored the Hawks 52-40 after the intermission.
"We started the game well but lost our discipline," said Drury head coach
Steve Hesser. "We righted the ship in the second half. There were some spurts where we defended well. We also got the ball moving, and that led to some open three's."
Johnson scored 20 second-half points and finished the game going 10 for 16 from the field.
Kamau Kinder scored 16 points and had eight rebounds.
Auston Rushing came off of the bench to lead Rockhurst with 15 points.
Drury was 30 for 62 from the field and 13 for 29 from three-point range. They held Rockhurst to 43 percent shooting as the Hawks went 22 for 51 and 9 for 23 from behind the arc.
The Panthers owned a 36-28 rebound advantage with 11 offensive boards.
Drury travels to St. Louis on Saturday for their next game. The Panthers take on the Central Division leaders, Maryville University, at 3 p.m. in Moloney Arena.
