EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.– The Drury Lady Panthers will take on Southern Indiana for the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Drury, the top seed in the tournament, is 28-2 and went 17-1 in the conference regular season. On Sunday, they will be looking to win back-to-back GLVC titles for this first time in program history. The Lady Panthers have won four championships since joining the GLVC in 2005-06 with titles in 2008, 2010, 2015 and 2017. Drury is playing in their sixth GLVC championship game and is 4-1 in program history in the conference finals.
The Lady Panthers, ranked third in the nation this week's NCAA-II coaches' poll, advanced through the tournament with an 86-54 win over McKendree in the quarterfinals and a 69-66 victory against Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday in the semifinal round.
Southern Indiana is 26-3, ranked 17th nationally, and the second seed in the tournament. They won their quarterfinal game on Thursday with a 64-54 win over William Jewell and got to the championship with a 76-68 win against Lewis in the semifinals on Saturday.
The two teams met once during the regular season with Drury winning 71-55 on Jan. 6 at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Lucia Fernandez led the Lady Panthers with 16 points in the game while
Hailey Diestelkamp had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kaydie Grooms had a game-high 20 points to lead the Screaming Eagles. Drury held Southern Indiana to 22 second half points outscoring them 35-22 after the intermission.
