BALDWIN CITY, Kan.– The Drury Panthers lost their first dual of the season falling to Baker 37-7 on Thursday night in Baldwin City, Kansas. The Wildcats, ranked 17th in the NAIA, improved to 3-1 while Drury, ranked 10
th in NCAA-II, dropped to 0-1.
The Panthers got a win from
Blake Clevenger in the 157-pound class as the Kearney, Missouri native won a Major Decision, 10-2, over Juan Rivera to stay unbeaten on the season. Drury heavyweight
Ben Melton closed the night with 5-1 win over Jake Miller.
"We handled some adversity this week leading up to the dual," said Drury head coach
James Reynolds. "We had a few great performances from Clevenger and Melton. We will continue to develop and work to come together as a team in February when it's most crucial."
Drury's
Jared Rennick lost by in an injury-forfeit 1:13 into his match with David Dow at 197 pounds. The Panthers were edged at 149 pounds as Baker's Colby Johnson got past
Peter Kuster 7-4, and
Colin Harper dropped a 3-0 decision to Tyler Price in the 165-pound class.
"We want to thank the parents, fans, and spouses that made the trip to Baldwin City," added Reynolds.
The Panthers are at home for a dual on Tue., Jan. 15 when they host Missouri Baptist at 7 p.m. in Weiser Gym.
