Drury smothers Rockhurst for 62-41 win in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— In a game that saw Drury get off to an ice-cold start offensively, the fourth-ranked Lady Panthers held Rockhurst scoreless for 11 minutes and pulled away for a 62-41 win over Rockhurst in Kansas City on Saturday.

Drury remains unbeaten improving to 13-0 and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks fell to 5-7 and 1-3.

The Lady Panthers started the game hitting just one of their first 16 shot attempts and ended the first quarter in a 12-12 tie. Drury built a five-point lead at halftime, 26-21, and extended it into the third quarter as part of a 20-0 run that began midway through the second period and lasted until the three-minute mark of the third. The Lady Panthers went up by as much as 29 in the fourth quarter.

"A lot of credit goes to Rockhurst as they came out and really played hard," said Drury head coach Molly Miller. "The obvious answer to not hitting shots is to turn up the defense and not let the other team score. That was our message to the team at halftime, and I was really proud of how we played in that third quarter."

Paige Robinson led the Lady Panthers with 19 points going 5 for 10 from three-point range. Hailey Diestelkamp had her second straight double-double as she finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Drury ended the game shooting a season-low 31 percent from the field hitting 21 of their 67 shots. The Lady Panthers forced 33 turnovers from Rockhurst and outscored the Hawks 31-3 in points-off-turnovers. The 41 points allowed by Drury is the fewest they have giving up in a game this season.

Madeline Ronshausen led Rockhurst with 10 points.

Drury returns home for their next game as they host Indianapolis on Thursday for a 5:45 p.m. game at the O'Reilly Event Center.
