O'FALLON, Ill.– The Drury swimming & diving teams both defeated McKendree but lost to Indianapolis in a triangular meet hosted by McKendree University at the Metro Rec-Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois, on Friday.
The Drury men's team, ranked eighth nationally, defeated fourth-ranked McKendree 156-142, and lost to second-ranked Indianapolis 162-138. The DU women's squad, ranked third in NCAA-II, took down the 24th ranked Bearcats 202-74 and fell to Indianapolis, ranked number seven, 165-129.
Women's Highlights
Drury senior
Erica Dahlgren won a pair of individual events as she took first in the 1000 Freestyle (10:25.07) and the 500 Freestyle (5:05.81). Sophomore
Allison Weber took second in both those events with a time of 10:28.36 in the 1000 Free and 5:07.40 in the 500 Free.
Senior and 2018 NCAA-II Swimmer of the Year
Bailee Nunn made her season debut and won two individual events and had a second-place finish in another. The Marshfield native took first in the 100 Breastroke (1:04.05), the 100 Butterfly (56.20), and second in the 200 Breast (2:20.62).
Yasmin Preusse won a pair of individual sprints. Preusse took the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.55 and the 100 Free in 51.68.
Drury's 400 Free Relay team finished second behind Indianapolis as Preusse,
Chrysoula Karamanou, Dahlgren, and
Hailey Hamlin swam a time of 3:33.91 to finish four seconds behind the Greyhounds. The Panthers were also second in the 400 Medley Relay with
Ellie Shell, Nunn,
Tori Sopp, and Preusse, posting a time of 3:52.93 to finish three seconds back of Indianapolis.
Men's Highlights
The Drury men's team started the meet with a win in the 400 Medley Relay as the
Nathan Bighetti,
Caleb Carlson,
Pavel Semochkin, and
Ahmed Wahby teamed up for a time of 3:19.71 and edged McKendree by 0.28 seconds.
The Panthers posted a one-two finish in the 100 Backstroke as Bighetti, a freshman from Cuiaba, Brazil, won with a time of 50.61, and teammate
Kham Glass was right behind him (51.42).
Bighetti also came back to win the 200 Backstroke (1:52.03) and took second in the 200 Individual Medley (1:55.24).
Pavel Semochkin finished first in the 100 Breastroke (56.73) and gave Drury a third-place finish in the 100 Butterfly (49.47).
Andrew Rodriguez, a sophomore from Ripon, Wisconsin, won a pair of events taking first the 200 Butterfly (1:52.49) and the 200 Individual Medley (1:53.26). He also took third in the 200 Backstroke (1:53.40).
Sophomore
Caleb Carlson finished first the in 50 Free with a time of 20.57 and was second in the 200 Breast (2:05.51).
Drury ended the day with a second-place finish in the 400 Free Relay as Wahby, Semochkin, Glass, and Carlson completed the event in 3:03.19 to finish less than three seconds behind McKendree.
Both Drury teams compete again on Saturday as they take part in the Lindenwood Invitational at the St. Peter's Rec-Plex in St. Peter's, Missouri.
