ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The Drury Panthers pulled away from Maryville in the second half to win their eighth straight game, 78-61, over the Saints on Saturday in St. Louis.
The Panthers raised their record to 17-10 and 11-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. It was also Drury's 10th win in their last 12 games. The Saints fell to 9-17 and 4-13 in the GLVC.
Drury owned a 33-29 lead at halftime, then opened up a double-digit margin midway through the second half and led by as much as 20 down the stretch.
"I thought the ball got stuck in our hands and we gave up too many offensive rebounds in the first half," said Drury head coach
Steve Hesser. "I was really proud of how our guys played in the second 20 minutes. We moved the ball well, we had guys step up and make shots, we got some stops, and we didn't give up the offensive boards we did in the first half."
Conley Garrison led Drury with 20 points going 7 for 10 from the field and 6 for 9 from three-point range. The sophomore from Bolivar added six rebounds.
Tyler Clanton added 13 while
Kamau Kinder and
Allen Billinger had 12 points each.
The Panthers shot 55 percent from going 29 for 53 from the floor and only committed five turnovers. Maryville was 24 for 41 and 9 for 25 from three-point range.
Eugene Jones led the Saints with 17 points.
Drury returns home to take on Rockhurst Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
