SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers have won five straight games while Maryville has a six-game winning streak as the two teams collide for a three-game series starting Saturday at US Baseball Park in Ozark. With the threat of rain, the series has shifted to a single-game on Saturday starting at 11 am and a doubleheader on Sunday with a noon start for game one.
Saturday is Drury's Green Up game as they partner with MidAmerica Transplant to support the life-saving cause of donating organs, and tissues. The Panthers will be wearing a special blue and green cap on Saturday to raise awareness for National Donate Life month, and fans attending the game can sign up to become an organ donor.
Drury enters the three-game series 20-17 and 13-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers are coming off of a 10-4 win at Missouri S&T on Tuesday, and they swept Truman State in a three-game series in Kirksville last weekend. Drury is in fourth place in the conference standings.
Maryville is in second place in the GLVC as the Saints are 18-15 overall and 15-6 in the league. Maryville started the year 1-9 but is 17-6 since March 1. They began their winning streak on April 3 with a doubleheader sweep of Missouri-St. Louis and have since swept McKendree in a three-game series at home, and they picked up a 6-1 victory at UMSL on Tuesday.
Kaleb Schmidt (1-2, 5.24 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Panthers on Saturday while
Tom Tewes (5-2, 3.42 ERA), and
Hunter Becker (3-0, 3.70 ERA) will start on Sunday.
After this weekend's series, Drury goes back on the road for a three-game set at UMSL on Friday and Saturday in St. Louis.
