SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury plays their final regular season home series this weekend as they take on William Jewell for three games starting with a noon doubleheader on Saturday and ending with Senior Day on Sunday at noon at US Baseball Park in Ozark. Drury will honor their senior players in a special ceremony before Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
The Panthers are 24-20, 16-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and enter the series in sixth place in the league standings. Drury is coming off of a 5-3 win in a non-conference game against 21st ranked Missouri Southern State on Tuesday.
William Jewell is 17-25-1, 11-16 in the GLVC and in 10th place in the conference. The Cardinals took an 8-5 loss to Central Missouri on Wednesday, but last weekend won two out of three at home against Lewis falling in game one 9-4 but bouncing back to win the next two, 8-7 and 7-6.
Kaleb Schmidt (2-3, 4.11 ERA) and
Tom Tewes (5-2, 4.60 ERA) are Drury's probable starting pitchers for Saturday with
Hunter Becker (3-1, 4.47 ERA) expected to throw on Sunday.
Drury enters the weekend with the fourth-best batting average in the conference (.291), and they rank third in runs scored (324).
The Panthers end the regular season on the road next weekend as they travel to McKendree for a three-game series on May 3-4. The GLVC tournament will feature the top eight finishers in the conference and, for the third year in a row, will be played at US Baseball Park in Ozark May 9-12.
