Drury men's team wins dual vs. Lindenwood; women's squad edged

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury men's swimming & diving team opened the 2020-21 season with a 1,569-1,215 win over Lindenwood in a two-day dual meet completed on Saturday at the Breech Pool on the DU campus. The women's team fell to the Lions 1,363-1,218.
 
Men's Highlights
Drury set seven pool records on Saturday, the first coming in the 200 Medley Relay. Caleb Carlson, Cole Vanden Hoek, Oleksii Khnykin, and Karol Ostrowski combined for a time of 1:28.54. Drury's 'B' team finished less than a second behind them in second place.
 
Khnykin then set a Breech Pool record winning the 100 Fly with a time 47.31 while Ostrowski was second (48.09).
 
Drury's 800 Free Relay also picked up a win and broke a pool record that had stood since 2003, and one Lindenwood head coach and Drury alum Jason Owen was a part of when he competed for the Panthers. Drury posted a time of 6:38.50 behind Ostrowski, Ahmed Wahby, Ean Vandergraaf, and Jan Rasmussen and broke the 17-year old mark by nearly six seconds. Lindenwood's squad was second with a time of 6:39.13, also under the previous pool record.
 
Nathan Bighetti, a junior from Brazil, had a time of 1:45.91 in the 200 Back, earning the Panthers another win and his time also set a Breech Pool record.
 
A Drury program record was broken in the 100 Free as Ostrowski, the freshman from Poland who made his collegiate debut during the weekend, got the wall in 42.69 to win by nearly two seconds.
 
The Panthers ended the event with a pool record in the 400 Free Relay. Ostrowski, Alex Bowen, Khnykin, and Kham Glass broke the mark, previously held by Missouri and set in 2012, by more than four seconds with a time of 2:56.03. Lindenwood's time of 2:59.06 was also under the previous pool record.  
 
Panthers diver Cole Earl won both the three-meter and one-meter diving events. The sophomore out of Springfield-Glendale scored 286.72 points in the three-meter, then followed with 516.89 in the one-meter.
 
Women's Highlights
Kasia Rogowksa earned a win in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.09 while Laura Pareja (56.93) was third, Mackenzie Wieberg (57.65) finished fourth, and Josie Bushell (58.77) was fifth.
 
Pareja won the 100 Back by more than two seconds as she posted a time of 53.87. Julie Berger was third (58.81) while Gabie Fouchi came in fourth (58.87).
 
Drury's 800 Free Relay team edged the Lions as Allison Weber, Yasmin Preusse, Karianne Reinertsen, and Harris had a time of 7:37.36, squeaking out a win by 0.16 seconds.
 
Weber, a junior from Marshall, Missouri, took the 1000 Free with a time of 10:06.96, and Pareja also took first place winning the 200 Back with a time of 2:00.00.
 
Drury finished one-two-three in the 100 Free as Preusse finished first (50.47), Bushell was second (52.12), and Rogowska (52.48) came in third.
 
Mackenzie Harris won the 200 Fly by more than four seconds, posting a time of 2:03.00 as teammate Cami DiSanto was second (2:07.36).
 
The Panthers capped the event with a win in the 400 Free as Rogowska, Preusse, Bushell, and Pareja, combined for a time of 3:24.62, holding off Lindenwood who finished with a time of 3:25.88. 
 
 
Drury's teams return to the pool Nov. 19-21 when they compete in the Southern Methodist Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
