LIBERTY, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers pulled away from William Jewell in the second half for an 81-58 win at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri, on Saturday to improve to 4-0. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 1-3.
After a mistake-filled first half that saw Drury commit 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, the Lady Panthers settled down and used a 9-2 run to close out the third quarter and took a 61-45 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Drury outscored William Jewell 20-13 in the fourth period to win by 23.
Paige Robinson scored a game-high 25 points and added nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Allie Clevenger, a freshman from Clever, Missouri, chipped in 11 points.
"I thought we were pressing too hard in the first half," said head coach
Amy Eagan. "We were playing hard on defense, but the ball wasn't going in for us and, (offensively) it just wasn't going smoothly. We played frustrated. I told them at halftime to just stay the course. I thought we made some good adjustments offensively and in our half-court defense."
The Lady Panthers held William Jewell to 35 percent shooting as the Cardinals went 21 for 60 from the field and just 3 for 18 from three-point range.
Drury shot 44 percent, going 27 for 62, and connected on 8 of their 19 three-point tries.
The Lady Panthers forced 30 William Jewell turnovers, and after committing 14 in the first half, Drury turned the ball over just five times in the second half.
The win marked Drury's 36
th straight victory dating back through last year and was their 26
th consecutive road win, the longest nationally in NCAA-II women's basketball. The win was also Drury's 70th straight regular season victory and their 53rd in a row in the GLVC's regular season.
The Lady Panthers are idle until Dec. 12 when they travel to Rockhurst for a 1 pm game at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Missouri.
