Diestelkamp sets DU single-game scoring record with 43 points in win at William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo.— Drury forward Hailey Diestelkamp broke her own single-game scoring record and poured in 43 points as the number one ranked Lady Panthers won at William Jewell 98-67 on Saturday in Liberty, Missouri.

Drury kept their record perfect moving to 25-0 and 16-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Cardinals had their three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 11-13 and 7-9 in the league.

The Lady Panthers started to pull away in the second quarter. After leading 19-17 after the first period, Drury outscored William Jewell 19-9 in the second to take a 38-26 advantage at halftime. The Lady Panthers scored 35 points in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Diestelkamp went 16 for 24 from the field, 3 for 4 from three-point range, was 8 of 9 from the free throw line, and added 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double game. The senior from Owensville, Missouri, also had four assists and two steals.

Her record-setting basket came on a three-pointer in the fourth quarter to give her 43 points on the afternoon. Diestelkamp owned the previous mark with 42 on Nov. 13, 2018, against Southwest Baptist. She has had two games of 37 points earlier this year. Before Diestelkamp, Drury's only other 40-point game was Alice Heinzler's 41-point performance against William Jewell on Jan. 27, 2018.

"Hailey is playing on a whole other level this semester," said Drury head coach Molly Miller. "She's really gotten good at being more patient around the rim. Then, when her three-point shot is going, she can score in droves."

Paige Robinson added 22 points for Drury, with all of them coming in the second half. Robinson went 6 for 8 from the floor, and her total came in just 15 minutes of playing time.

Brooke Stanfield had a career-high 15 points for the Lady Panthers.

"Brooke came in and was aggressive," said Miller. "She's playing like a veteran and like a senior. She did a lot of things for us today that didn't show up in the box score. Against a team that likes to get down-hill and drive, she was a key contributor in getting us stops."

Kiara Bradley had 19 points to lead William Jewell.

Drury returns home on Thursday and will host Truman State, a team with the second-best winning percentage in the GLVC. Tipoff is at 5:45 pm at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
