Panthers meet Prairie Stars for Overflow the O'
The Drury Panthers take on Illinois Springfield for Overflow the O' presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts on Saturday at 3 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury has won their last three games and enters Saturday's contest with a 14-7 record and a 7-6 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers are coming off of an 84-82 win at home over Lewis on Thursday.
Â
Illinois Springfield is 12-9, 5-8 in the league, and lost at Southwest Baptist 88-82 on Thursday in Bolivar. The Prairie Stars had their three-game winning streak snapped in the loss and entered the week coming off wins over Lindenwood, 95-88, 12th-ranked Bellarmine 77-75, and an Indianapolis team ranked 22nd last week, 89-86 in overtime. Illinois Springfield is coached by Matt Brock, a Camdenton, Missouri, native who is in his first year at UIS after four seasons at Missouri Baptist.
Â
Drury leads the all-time series against the Prairie Stars 12-2 but lost last year's game 88-87 in Springfield, Illinois. The Panthers have never lost to UIS at home.
Â
Drury is 9-1 at home this season with their only loss at the O' coming against 13th ranked Missouri-St. Louis, 72-70, on Jan. 9. The Panthers have won four straight at the O' and, after today, still have three home games remaining hosting Truman St. on Feb. 20, William Jewell on Feb. 27, and Rockhurst on Feb. 29.
Â
The Panthers go on the road next week for their next two games. Drury is at Rockhurst on Thursday at 7:30 pm, then will take on William Jewell on Saturday at 3 pm in Liberty, Missouri.
Â
Defense a key to Drury winsÂ
The Panthers are 8-0 this season when they've held their opponents to fewer than 70 points. While Drury allowed 82 points in their win over Lewis on Thursday, they allowed just 34 in the second half as they rallied from 13 points down in the opening moments of the game to pull out a win at home.
