ARKADELPHIA, Ark.– The 19^th ranked Drury Panthers opened the 2020-21 season with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference duals in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and lost their opener to 11^th ranked Indianapolis 26-17, then defeated Ouachita Baptist 34-9 to start the year 1-1.
 
The Panthers earned four wins against Indianapolis in their first match of the day. Drury's Peter Kuster picked up a major decision at 141 pounds with a 17-3 win over Brayden Lowery. Logan Zimmermann edged Owen Butler at 174 pounds with a 10-7 win. Kolby Estes won his match at 197 pounds when Zach Fry was injured at 5:31 and unable to continue. Heavyweight Jared Rennick ended Drury's first match with an 18-8 major decision win over Cale Gray.
 
Against host Ouachita Baptist, Drury forfeited their first match at 125 pounds, narrowly lost an 11-9 decision as Drury's Joe Chavez was edged by Evan Kennedy, but the Panthers then won their next eight match-ups. Kuster earned his second major decision win of the day with a 14-3 win over Jesse Hodge. Riley McCall, at 157 pounds, shutout his opponent, Adrian Salazar, in a 12-0 major decision victory. 184-pound Tucker Caswell won by Fall at 2:50 over Brady Marple, and heavyweight Jared Rennick closed out the day with a 12-4 major decision win over Johnny Green.
 
Drury's season opener was delayed until Jan. 10 due to concerns from the coronavirus pandemic. Competition at the NCAA-II began after Jan. 1. 
 
The Panthers, currently tied for 19^th in the NCAA-II preseason coaches poll, return to action on Jan. 17 at the Jets Duals, hosted by Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. Drury will face Fort Hays State, Central Oklahoma, Newman and Emmanuel
