Lady Panthers travel to St. Louis for match-up with Maryville
Fresh off of their first game in 22 days, the Drury Lady Panthers return to action on Saturday with a 1 pm game in St. Louis against Maryville.
Â
Drury was idle for more than three weeks due to two stints of quarantine protocols following positive tests of the COVID-19 virus within the program. The Lady Panthers, ranked number one in NCAA-II and unbeaten at 9-0, emerged from the lay-off with an 85-66 win on Thursday at Missouri S&T. Drury has now won 41 straight games dating back to the national semifinals on March 27, 2019. The Lady Panthers have not lost a regular season game since Jan. 18, 2018, when they fell at Bellarmine.
Â
Maryville is 7-7 and enters Saturday's game in fourth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Central Division. The Saints fell in double-overtime on Thursday to Southwest Baptist, 100-97, for their first home loss of the year. Maryville has the reigning GLVC Player of the Week with Jayda Jansen, averaging 21.4 points in her last five games.
Â
Saturday's game is the second meeting of the year between the two teams. Drury defeated the Saints 92-59 on Jan. 3 in Springfield and has won 14 straight against Maryville. The last Saints win over Drury was on Feb. 9, 2013, in a 54-53 win for MU in Springfield.
Â
After Saturday's game, Drury returns to action on Tuesday when they host Rockhurst at 5:30 pm in the O'Reilly Event Center. The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 16 but was forced to a later date. It will be Drury's third contest in a five-games-in-nine-days stretch.
Â
