Lady Panthers open their 22nd season in D2CCA Tipoff Classic in Canyon, Texas
Drury's 22nd season of women's intercollegiate basketball starts Friday at 11 am against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.

The Lady Panthers will play three games in three days and take on the host Lady Buffs on Saturday and 1:30 pm and Central Missouri on Sunday at 11 am.

Lady Panthers in season openers
The Drury Lady Panthers will play their 22nd season opening on Friday, and the program is 18-3 all-time playing their first game of the season. Drury has won their last nine season-opening games with their last loss coming on Nov. 11, 2011, against Division I Oral Roberts in Tulsa.

Their last opening loss to a D-II program came the previous season when the Lady Panthers started with a home loss to Northeastern State on Nov. 13, 2010. Drury's other loss in their first game was the program's first game ever, a 70-66 setback to Cameron in Pittsburg, Kan., on Nov. 17, 2000.

About Southwestern Oklahoma St.
Southwestern Oklahoma State went 18-4 last year and ended the season ranked 15th in NCAA-II. The Bulldogs are picked to win the Great American Conference by their league's preseason coaches' poll. They return all five starters, including the GAC Player of the Year, Makyra Tramble, who averaged 19.5 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Both Drury and Southwestern Oklahoma State had their seasons end at the hands of eventual national champion Lubbock Christian. The Lady Panthers defeat came in the national championship, while the Bulldogs lost to the Lady Chaps in the South Central Regional championship game, 78-65.

About West Texas A&M
West Texas A&M will have a new look this season as Josh Prock enters his first year as head coach after arriving from Eastern New Mexico. Prock inherits a team that went 15-6 last season.

The Lady Buffs are picked to finish third in the Lone Star Conference behind defending national champion Lubbock Christian, who is picked first, and Texas A&M-Commerce, selected for second.

West Texas A&M is one of the best teams in Division II at home, having a 242-34 record since their current arena, the First United Bank Center, opened in 2002.

About Central Missouri
Central Missouri advanced to the Elite Eight season and reached the national semifinals before their season ended at the hands of Lubbock Christian, 63-61. The Jennies went 23-5 and won the Central Regional Tournament to advance to Columbus.

UCM returns three starters and 10 letter winners, including Nija Collier, who averaged 13.3 points and 9.2 rebounds. She led the MIAA in rebounding last year and was second in blocks. The Jennies are picked second in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll behind Fort Hays State.
