CANYON, Texas — The Drury Lady Panthers started the second half on a 12-0 run and held off West Texas A&M for a 91-78 win in the D2CCA Classic in Canyon, Texas on Saturday.
Drury led 34-33 at halftime as the first two quarters featured 15 lead changes. The Lady Panthers scored the final four points of the half, going from down three to up by one at the intermission.
Drury's full-court press created turnovers that sparked 12 unanswered points giving the Lady Panthers a 46-33 lead less than three minutes into the third quarter.
"In the first half, we got in a little bit of a panic and I'm not sure why," said Drury head coach
Amy Eagan. "At halftime, I just had to calm them down and remind them that we can't worry about our offensive stuff. We have to get it done on defense, and I thought our third quarter was phenomenal defensively."
The Lady Panthers led by as much as 17 in the fourth period, but West Texas A&M scrapped back within five in the final three minutes. Drury hit free throws down the stretch to build the lead back to double-digits.
Drury forced 26 turnovers in the game and seven different Lady Panthers had a hand in their 11 steals.
Paige Robinson led the Lady Panthers with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists, while
Kaylee DaMitz contributed 15 points and was 6 for 6 from the free throw line.
Alana Findley added 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Zamorye Roberts had a game-high 23 points for the Lady Buffs, while Alivia Lewis added 19 points and 15 rebounds.
The win lifted Drury's record to 2-0 while dropping West Texas A&M to 0-2.
The Lady Panthers play their third and final game of the D2CCA Classic on Sunday at 11 am as they take on Central Missouri at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
