NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Drury used a big second half to blow open a halftime lead and defeat Trevecca Nazarene 97-60 on Friday in their first game of the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Lady Panthers, ranked second nationally in NCAA-II, improved to 4-0, while the Trojans start the year with a loss to go to 0-1.
Drury led 48-37 at the half, then outscored Trevecca Nazarene 32-13 in the third quarter and 49-23 in the second half for a 97-60 victory. The Lady Panthers led by as much as 42 in the second half.
Kaylee DaMitz led Drury with 23 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals while playing just 14 minutes.
Alana Findley added 14 points, and
Paige Robinson chipped in 12.
Keeley Carter had 20 points to lead the Trojans.
The Lady Panthers shot 55 percent going 38 for 69, and they owned a 44-35 rebound advantage. Drury held Trevecca to 35 percent shooting and the Trojans were just 5 for 21 from three-point range. The Lady Panthers also forced 24 turnovers while committing 16.
Drury plays their second game in the Pops Duncan Classic on Saturday against Kentucky Wesleyan, a team that went 18-6 last year reached in the NCAA-II Tournament. Tipoff is at 4 pm in Nashville, Tenn.
