Panthers with road test at Southern Nazarene
The Drury Panthers play their third game of the season on Friday night as they travel to Southern Nazarene for a 7:30 pm tipoff in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Drury is 1-1 after splitting their first two games of 2021-22 in the Ferris State Classic. The Panthers won their season opener, 84-69, over Ohio Dominican on Nov. 13, then lost to host Ferris State 124-77 last Sunday.

Victor Nwagbarachoa leads Drury in scoring through their first two games scoring 17 points in both contests. He also grabbed eight rebounds in the opener versus Ohio Dominican, then had six boards against Ferris State.

Southern Nazarene also split their first two games of the season. Last weekend, the Crimson Storm opened their year in the Central Region Challenge at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City and started the season with a 73-52 win over Sioux Falls. SNU then lost on Saturday in double-overtime to Missouri Southern State 89-88.

Drury's game against Southern Nazarene will be the first meeting between the two programs since they were both in the NAIA. Their last encounter was on Feb. 2, 1993, in Bethany, Oklahoma, and Southern Nazarene edged the Panthers 83-80. The all-time series between the two teams is tied 3-3. Drury and the Crimson Storm will play again this season with a 7:45 pm game on Dec. 18 at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Following Friday's game, the Panthers will be at home for the first time this year when they host the DoubleTree Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 23-24. Drury will take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, then Arkansas-Monticello on Wednesday. Missouri S&T will also face off against both opponents in the afternoon sessions of the event.

About Southern Nazarene
Southern Nazarene's Tyler McGhie scored 25 points in their season-opening game but did not see action the following day against Missouri Southern. Adokiye Iyaye played in both games and averaged 16 points last weekend.

The Crimson Storm finished second in the Oklahoma Division of the Great American Conference last year, going 11-8 overall and 11-7 in the league. Two years ago, they went 24-8 and reached the NCAA-II Tournament, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

SNU moved to NCAA-II in 2013-14. They won the NAIA National Championship in 1981.
