Lady Panthers overpower Emporia State, 96-68

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Drury Lady Panthers blew open a lead in the second quarter and ran away for a 96-68 win at Emporia State on Saturday in Emporia, Kansas.

Drury lifted their record to 6-1, while the Lady Hornets fell to 3-1.

The Lady Panthers led 23-16 after the opening quarter, then erupted for 36 points in the second period and led 59-39 at halftime. Drury then held Emporia State to 13 points in their quarter and led by as much as 36 in the second half.

"At halftime, I got on to them a little for giving up 39 points because a 39-point half may hurt us later and because I didn't want them to be satisfied," said Drury head coach Amy Eagan. "But I was proud of our kids. They stayed the course in the second half, executed our game plan really well, and were able to finish it."

Paige Robinson, Drury's reigning NCAA-II Player of the Year, led all scorers with 22 points and added eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Alana Findley scored 10 points in the first quarter and ended the game with 15 points and nine boards.

Ehlaina Harman led Emporia State with 18 points. Tre'Zure Jobe, the MIAA Player of the Year last season, had 11 points but was held to 3 for 15 shooting and was 1 for 8 from three-point range.

"Our kids were really dialed in on personnel today," added Eagan. "I thought we did a really good job in knowing how they set up Jobe's penetration and her shots."

Drury shot 49 percent for the game going 37 for 75, and they held the Lady Hornets to 34 percent shooting as Emporia State went 20 for 59. The Lady Panthers forced 26 turnovers and outscored the Hornets 41-7 in points off of turnovers.

The loss marked the first time Emporia State has lost to a non-conference opponent at home since 2007, breaking a 46-game winning streak.

Drury returns home on Tuesday when they host the first day of the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Classic. The Lady Panthers take on Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday at 5:30 pm, then will host 19th ranked Union (Tenn.) on Wednesday at 5:30 pm for the second day of the event.
