Drury faces Hawks in second GLVC test
The Drury Panthers play their second game on the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule on Saturday as they host Rockhurst at 3 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury is 2-5 and 0-1 on the GLVC after a loss on Monday at Missouri S&T, 80-76. Saturday's game is also the fourth home game of the year for the Panthers.
Â
Rockhurst is 2-6 and is also 0-1 in the league. The Hawks lost to Southwest Baptist 76-68 on Thursday in Kansas City.
Â
Drury forward
Clay Gayman is coming off of a double-double on Monday. The Nevada High School product had 17 points and 12 rebounds at Missouri S&T earlier this week for the first double-double by a Drury player this season. Gayman is averaging 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds through the first seven games of the year.
Â
The Panthers won both games against Rockhurst last year as they earned an 82-64 win in Kansas City on Feb. 9, and they won the home contest, 91-81, on Jan. 16. Drury has won the last five meetings and 17 of the last 18 head-to-head games. The Panthers lead the all-time series 76-45.Â
Â
Drury head coach Chris Foster to miss Saturday's game
Under the advice and guidance of his physicians and medical professionals, Drury men's basketball head coach
Chris Foster will not be on the sidelines for the Panthers game against Rockhurst scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
The team will be led by assistant coach
Chris Carr along with assistant coaches
Ben Fisher and
Sam Briscoe.
Â
Foster left Drury's game on Nov. 27 due to medical issues and was treated and released by a local hospital that night. He was not available for Drury's game at Missouri S&T on Monday but returned to his office during the week.
Â
Drury Athletics will release further information on his condition as the situation warrants.
About the Hawks
Rockhurst is led by Nick Volz, who is averaging 15.1 points per game. The 6-8 senior also averages 6.6 rebounds and is shooting .568 from the field. Jake Auer is putting up 14.8 points and is 28 for 73 from three-point range in eight games.
Â
The Hawks have wins over Purdue-Northwest, 63-56, on Nov. 13, and against Concordia (Neb.), 87-70, on Nov. 27.
Â
Home stretch starts
Saturday's game is the start of five straight home games for the Panthers that will stretch until Jan. 2. Drury is at home on Friday against Health Sciences & Pharmacy of St. Louis, then hosts Southern Nazarene on Dec. 18 before returning to conference play when they host William Jewell on Jan. 2.
