Drury home again to face UHSP
The Drury Panthers play their second of four straight home games on Friday as they host the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy of St. Louis. Tipoff is at 7 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury is coming off of a 90-61 win on Saturday over Missouri S&T. The Panthers got a season-high 28 points from
Malek Davis, while
Obi Okafor added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The 29-point win has been Drury's largest margin of a win this season, and the 61 points allowed has been the Panthers best defensive total so far this year.
Â
UHSP is 4-5 and coming off of a conference win over Harris-Stowe State, 62-58 on Saturday. The Eutectics are already three wins away from matching their best win total in six years, a 7-win season in 2018-19. UHSP played GLVC member Lindenwood in an exhibition on Nov. 17 and lost in St. Charles, 81-64. The Eutectics are led by RJ Wright averaging 13.2 points, and Terry Deboise, who is averaging 13.1.
Â
Friday's game is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Â
Who are the Eutectics (and what IS a Eutectic?)
The University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy of St. Louis was previously known as St. Louis College of Pharmacy and competes in the NAIA and the American Midwest Conference.
Â
The college was founded in 1864 and is the third-oldest and 10th largest college of pharmacy in the United States, with an enrollment of nearly 700.
Â
Their roster features two players from southwest Missouri with Springfield native and Greenwood product Grant Harper (who is averaging 4.6 assists) and Mount Vernon's Mason Ballay.
Â
"Eutectic" describes the scientific process of two solids being combined to form a liquid and was chosen as the school's nickname by students in 1993. The Eutectic was recognized as the most esoteric mascot in the country by ESPN in 2007.
Â
Next Up
The Panthers are idle until Dec. 18 when they host Southern Nazarene for a 7:45 pm game at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The game is a rematch from a Nov. 19 contest in Bethany, Oklahoma, won by the Crimson Storm 80-71.
