Lady Panthers host Rockhurst in battle of top two teams in West Division
The number one ranked Drury Lady Panthers play their first home game since Jan. 6 when they host the Rockhurst Hawks at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
Â
Drury returned to action last week after positive tests of the COVID-19 virus forced a pause of team activities that resulted in going 22 days between games. Tuesday's game was originally scheduled for Jan. 16 but was one of four games that had to be postponed.
Â
The Lady Panthers moved their record to 10-0 with an 85-66 win at Missouri S&T that was followed by a 76-56 victory at Maryville. Drury has won 42 straight games entering Tuesday's contest.
Â
Rockhurst is 6-5 and endured an even longer layoff between games earlier this season. The Hawks went from Dec. 16 to Jan. 21 between games. They emerged from quarantine protocol with an 82-57 win over Missouri S&T on Jan. 21, but the Hawks lost their next three games before beating Missouri-St. Louis 57-51 on Saturday. Rockhurst is in second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's West Division.
Â
Tuesday's game is the second meeting of the year between the two teams. Drury won at Rockhurst earlier this year on Dec. 12, 76-64. The 12-point Lady Panthers win has been their closest game this season, and the contest was tied 60-60 with 4:49 remaining, marking only the third time in two years that Drury has been tied for behind in a game in the last five minutes of regulation.
Â
The Lady Panthers lead the all-time series against Rockhurst 39-1 and have won the last 39 meetings. Their only loss against the Hawks came in the first-ever meeting between the two programs as Drury lost in overtime 72-69 in DU's inaugural season on Jan. 27, 2001.
Â
After Tuesday's game, Drury hosts Lindenwood for a 5:30 pm contest on Thursday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.Â
Â
