Drury opens the GLVC Tournament at home vs. Indianapolis
The Drury Lady Panthers begin the 2021 postseason on Wednesday when they host Indianapolis in the Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinals. Tipoff is 6:05 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury ended the regular season 17-1, winners of the West Division, and the Lady Panthers are the number one seed in the GLVC Tournament as they finished with the best Point Rating in the conference. Drury enters the tournament having won seven straight and is coming off a 93-74 win at Quincy.
Â
Drury will be seeking their fifth-straight GLVC championship. The last three titles were decided in Edwardsville, Illinois, while their 2017 championship came in Evansville, Indiana. The tournament was moved to campus sites as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Â
Indianapolis is 11-10 and seeded eighth on the conference bracket. The Greyhounds enter the tournament having lost their last two games, but both by one point. UIndy fell to Lindenwood 65-64 on Saturday, and they dropped a 59-58 contest at home to Maryville. The Greyhounds had won six straight prior to the two losses that ended their regular season.
Â
Drury and Indianapolis will be playing one another for the first time this season. UIndy canceled Their Feb. 18 contest in Springfield due to COVID-19 quarantine issues. The Lady Panthers lead the all-time series 12-5 and won last year's game, 73-51, on Jan. 23, 2020, at the O'.
Â
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the GLVC semifinals and play the winner of the Missouri-St. Louis vs. Lewis game. Should Drury win Wednesday's game, they will host the semifinals and finals this weekend. The Lady Panthers would play at noon on Saturday in the semifinals, with Sunday's championship game starting at 1 pm.
Â
If Indianapolis wins, they will travel to the site to the highest remaining seed from the quarterfinals to play the UMSL/Lewis winner.
Â
The other quarterfinal game on Wednesday features second-seeded Truman State hosting the number seven seed, Maryville. William Jewell will advance to the semifinals on Saturday due to Southern Indiana declining to play due to issues with COVID-19 within their program.Â
Â
