OZARK, Mo.— Sixth-ranked Lindenwood stayed undefeated as they fought off Drury in both games of a doubleheader, winning 3-2 in game one and 9-7 in game two. All three games in the four-game series have been one or two-run games.
The Panthers fell to 0-5 and 0-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Lindenwood kept their perfect record intact, going to 11-0 and 7-0 in the league.
Lindenwood held off the Panthers in game one winning 3-2.
Drury jumped out to an early lead as
Brant Schaffitzel drove in two runs with a single to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the third innings. The Lions got single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. They took advantage of a Drury error in the seventh to push across the go-ahead run. Mitchell Krebs reached base on a Panthers miscue, then scored on Beau Collier's base-hit.
In game two, the Lions built an 8-0 lead before Drury stormed back but fell short 9-7.
Three Drury errors played a part in Lindenwood's seven-run third inning that staked the Lions to a big lead early. The Panthers mounted a comeback with five runs in the fifth capped by
DJ McNew's two-RBI single that cuts Lindenwood's lead to 8-5.
Drury pulled within one an inning later on an RBI-double by
Aaron Mann, but the Lions pushed home an insurance run in the eighth, then held off the Panthers in the late innings to preserve the win and stay undefeated.
Mann went 4 for 4 in the game for Drury with a run, two RBI's, and a walk.
Five Drury errors led to eight unearned runs from the Lions.
The two teams conclude their four-game series on Sunday at noon in U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.
