Drury splits doubleheader with William Jewell

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury Panthers split a doubleheader with William Jewell on Saturday, winning game one 12-2 but falling in the second game 13-5. Both were seven-inning games.
 
Drury moved their record to 4-7 and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while William Jewell went to 5-8 and 4-7 in the league.
 
The Panthers took game one 12-2 and scored in the double-digits for the fourth-straight game. Drury scored at least one run in every inning and took a 6-0 lead early with two runs in the first and four in the second inning.
 
Jackson Dierenfeldt went 3 for 4 with three runs, two runs batted in, a double, a walk and a stolen base. Clayton Engel and Riley Herron both went 2 for 2 at the plate, and DJ McNew blasted his second home run of the year.
 
Kaleb Schmidt (1-1) got the win going five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. Alex Schneider (0-3) took the loss for William Jewell.
 
Drury scored all five of their runs in the first inning of game two in a 13-5 loss in the second game of the doubleheader. This time, it was William Jewell that scored at least one run in every inning, and they took the lead with a three-run third inning to go ahead 7-5.
 
Nikko Calabro went 3 for 4 at the plate for the Panthers and added a run, an RBI, and a double.
 
Drury used seven different pitchers but could not stem the tide as the Cardinals banged out 13 hits to go with 13 runs. William Jewell only had one extra-base hit in the barrage.
 
The four-game series concludes on Sunday with a noon game at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
