Drury's Magnificent Seven ride again in St. Louis
After winning their Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal game at Southwest Baptist on Wednesday with only seven players in uniform, the Panthers ride into the league semifinals at Missouri-St. Louis for a game at noon on Saturday.
Â
Drury is 10-9 after their 99-97 win at SBU. The Panthers entered the tournament as the sixth seed and were playing their first game in 18 days due after positive COVID-19 cases halted their season. Drury had seven players out with either injuries or those that had yet to clear COVID protocols on Wednesday.
Â
Missouri-St. Louis advanced to the semifinals with an 84-78 win at home over seventh-seeded Lindenwood. The Tritons then took over host responsibilities for the rest of the GLVC tournament after top-seeded Truman State lost at home to Indianapolis 77-75.
Â
UMSL is 13-5 and is the number two seed in the tournament.
Â
The Panthers and Tritons split the regular season series. UMSL won at home over Drury 78-73 on Jan. 12, and the Panthers won their home against the Tritons, 78-66, on Feb. 6. Drury leads the all-time series 26-8. The two teams met in last year's GLVC quarterfinals with UMSL, at the time, the number one seed, winning at the buzzer 53-51.
Â
The Panthers-Tritons winner will be the winner of the game between fifth-seeded Lewis and number eight Indianapolis in the GLVC Championship on Sunday at 1 pm.
Â

Â
Drury is 10-4 all-time in the quarterfinal round, 5-6 in the semifinals, and 3-1 in the championship. The Panthers are 2-0 in the tournament's opening round.Â
